US Association of Glass request remedy investigations to China's glass products(1/20/2010)
On January 19, 2010, "New York Times" reported that, if the U.S. unemployment rate continues to remain at the high level of 10%, the United States will make pressure to the Obama government to raise the existing tariffs on imports of glass, especially from China, to set up the same protective measures on the U.S. glass industry as steel and tire industry. This will not only get the support of the United Steelworkers, also received support from more than 300 small manufacturers within the United States. They believe that China's glass products are competitive in the U.S. market only because of its heavy subsidizer in recent years, these subsidies to offset the high freight costs of heavy glass shipped across the Pacific from China to the United States, from Chinaglass a serious impact on US-glass industry, glass factory makes the United States and underemployment, employment continued to decline, the U.S. glass manufacturing industry is moving toward decline, so the Government should consider remedy investigations on China's trade initiated by the glass products.
However, the Obama administration has not publicly confirmed that imports of any particular industry as an object of special protection. Many economists believe that, under the condition of the current global economy in reducing tariffs and subsidies, countries should strive to produce or provide their own most advantageous products and services, and exchange with the advantage of other products and services from other countries, in this way, it can get a maximize revenue in the global scale.
