Japan, Russia plans to develop the Siberia coal resources(6/12/2010)
Japanese steel companies and major trading companies of the representatives of 10 June a visit to Moscow with the Russian government's resource sector and coal companies held talks, and to develop coal resources in the Russian Far East, Siberia, reached a preliminary agreement.
Content of the agreement, including the Japanese side promised that if Japanese companies enter the Russian Far East to participate in large-scale coal development project, Japan Bank for International Cooperation will develop the necessary funding to provide assistance, but the Japanese government to the private sector from both will provide the necessary support. The Russians are looking forward to the future of coal mining in Japan able to transport the necessary rail and port construction and other assistance. Specific co-operation in the subsequent negotiations will be decided.
As the world's largest coal importer, Japan, in order to reduce dependence on coal resources in Australia and China, the reduction of coal exports, as a government department and the Office of Resources and Energy, the Japanese steel companies to form the major officials and the public community, with efforts to find coal imports diversity. As Russia contains abundant coal resources, and not far from the Japanese closer, for Japan, hoping to expand Russia's import ratio of coal, so in recent years, Japan from official to private, are actively seeking and Russia in the coal resource development cooperation opportunities.
